Movie Review - The Last Man Standing
There is a remarkable wealth of often subtle detail slipped into the movie that tie it closely to real places and events. You see certain economic forces, such as small businesses being pressured and increasingly swallowed up by big conglomerates who want to eliminate local bases of competition. And i would argue there is also a psychological realism and the bitterness and resentment on george's part. It was definitely not nostalgic when it was made. For one thing, it's not an entirely positive portrait of this middle class world, as i d but also, when it puts forward this sort of christmas themed vision of the american future, it was forward looking, not backward looking.
