The Advantage of Free Speech

If you have an authoritarian political system, which stifles creativity in one area, it cannot but help to stifle creativity in other areas. If people feel as if they can't speak freely, then they won't. This slows down innovation across the board scientifically and technologically. We want to keep a head off bad regimes who might do bad things with new technology. And the advantage that we have exists precisely because of liberty, freedom, free speech, free trade,. It's competition and free trade, which allows us to get ahead of places that don't have that. The race is won by whoever is willing to take the most risks.
