What Is the Intent of Gipsy?

Gipsy rose has been sentenced to ten years in jail for the murder of cameron hooker. She was held captive by her mother, deedy, for two decades before she killed her and escaped. The prosecution agreed that they weren't going to go after the death penalty so it was taken off the table almost immediately when gipsy pleaded guilty. Gipsy's actions were not justifiable but why is it we can't accept this? It's hor massy because on some level we feel like, what would it take for me to kill my mother?
