The Relationship Between Teasing and Taboos
In every language that's been studied from hunter-gatherers to Philadelphia, people tease each other. Teasing is a way in which we bring up taboo subjects with other people. Great teasing begins in an appreciation of how other people might get embarrassed or how their feelings might get hurt,. And then we deliver the message that could be embarrassing in a really playful, indirect, goofy way.
