i was posted to one of the field squadrons, 12 at nova, scotia field squadron. They noticed i had a driving license so therefore i must be a driver. So i was appointed as sant major's driver and set loose into germany with a land drover. It took a while, but i did get there. I'm a great believer in that first posting is very influential in terms of it,. if germany suited you then you ended up as a soldier. And  that laid the foundations of my always trying to get back home.
