The Origins of IAPT

The idea for IAPT came from a tea party at the British Academy in 2003. Richard Leard, an economist and advisor to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, was behind it. He asked David Clark if he knew anything about mental health. The two agreed that there are effective treatments for depression. It's not as if we need new treatments. What we need is a vehicle for the delivery of those treatments to the population at large.
