Government officials and scholars have nded to see travellers as necessarily abhorrent. Most of irish society was mobile and itinerant, living in encampments until the 11 hundreds. It wasn't until the anglo norman invasion in the twelfth century imposed manorialism that most people began living as sedentary peasants.
