Sleep paralysis is interpreted differently in different cultures. It seems to depend on what your cultural expectations are for this evil being that's going to, you know, kind of get you while you're sleeping. Doesn't this also play to schizophrenia? I remember reading multiple times that people in other countries have the schizophrenic voices say positive things. Whereas people in America have them say negative things. And so that just was an interesting example where it seemed like the framing on those voices actually mattered a great deal to the person's experience and it kind of messed up their life.
