The History of the American Bra

The modern American bra was partly invented by a young American socialite, heavily influenced by France. Mary Phelps Jacob got the US patent partly because this existed, but was also recent and it just hadn't bled from France to the US yet. One or both of them was probably influenced by knowledge of French fashion. But then she went on to really make it a huge US thing.
