There was no hill named Kamora at the time. The word Kamora having come from the Book of Mormon itself. Smith retired to the hill in question and at the stroke of midnight on September 22, 1823 performed the occult evocation. It was by his account a success that golden plates were revealed. According to one version of the story, as he made to grab them from their resting place, an amphibious creature of some sort jumped out of the cave,. turned into a man, and hid him on the head. But why did the spirit prevent Smith from taking the golden plates? According to Smith, it was because Smith's own motives were not pure.
