The Importance of Honesty in Leadership

In many cases, leaders recognize that they're being fed a load of BS. How do leaders compensate for this? I would imagine, or I would know from memoirs, another sort of statements of unvarnished honesty. Any leader it could, I think, sort of say that information that doesn't accord with her prior beliefs has to be wrong.
