The Problem With Language Learning
LZ Granderson: I never really had any interest whatsoever in languages until very late in life. He went to Italy for his anniversary and couldn't speak the language, which was "frustrating" LZ's neighbor taught him Italian so he could talk with people who spoke it. After a few months of practice, he learned how to say things like 'please' and 'thank you,' but still didn't understand what they were saying. The American now lives in the UK because his wife is English; she also speaks French.
