So we've got pseudo stratified column epithelia in the airways. So where did you say you're in trachea? Trachea bronchial tree, but also in your nasal cavity as well. And you say that they have cilia on it. Now, because they're stratified, let's ignore the pseudo stratified part. They're still stratified. It's just that they look like there's many layers. Like the mucuses, for example. You've got these cells with the goblet cells producing and secreting mucus into the lumen, the hollow inside. That's called the silary mucusillary escalator.
One of the four tissue types of the body, epithelia lines and protects our organs from the external and internal environment. In this episode, Dr Matt & Dr Mike explain how the different shape and layers of epithelia tell you what function it performs (form = functions) and highlight examples in the body where you can find each type. They also explore cancer, metaplasia, dysplasia, and Dr Matt's mums skin cancer diagnosis and surgery.
