The Importance of Taking the Audience Along
There's something that actually makes me really kind of get a kick out of George Roy Hill. He understands flying. He understands the themes that he's chasing, which are courage, honor, and chivalry among these men. This is his story. And so when he absolutely, for all the right reasons, alienates him, he considers that a failure because his job is to deliver the audience a good fucking movie as far as their concern.
