The Origins of Home Invasion Films
I think the Jordan Peel films are definitely the ancestors of Wes Cravens film. And it's a home invasion film with a message to sell. I guess in a lot of ways, fairy tales kind of fit the bill as the origin for these sorts of stories. The house that Hansel and Gretel gingerbread house. Or with the witch. With the grandmother's house that's actually the wolf lurking within or whatever. It predates film, obviously predates film. There were probably cavemen sitting around the campfire telling stories about how they came home and found another tribe in their caves. We want to be safe. It's the one thing we dream of is being safe.
