The first convincing suggestion that removing the Left Atrial Appendage might produce benefits in terms of stroke reduction in AFib was work by Dr. Blackshear in his group at Mayo Clinic, he says. In patients who had non-rheumatic AFib, 91 percent of them thrombi were isolated really only to the Left Atrian Appendage. And this concept is just kind of 20 people up with this concept now or so.
