The Motley Fool got its initial break by making up a penny stock that didn't exist and hyping it with an online account. Morgan, Howzel: Crazy speculation has always existed in the stock market. The barriers to entry to crazy behavior have been diminished since trading fees were removed from almost every brokerage account two years ago. But once you create one of those for something that is borderline fraudulent, that's a different animal.
