The Path to Supermassive Black Hole Formation
According to our best simulations, the average mass of a first star should be about 10 times the mass of the sun or 25 times larger than a typical star today. So at those masses, we start to think, you know, pretty much every star we make is going to go supernova and we'll either make a neutron star or black hole. I think there are some people who hope that there were already primordial black holes formed in the Big Bang. These questions might actually be answered with gravitational wave detectors in the future.
