The Uncanny Valley

One of the first big photo-real computer animated movies was Final Fantasy Colin, The Spirits Within. Reviewers didn't quite know what to say; they would just say, we've tumbled into the Uncanny Valley again. Polar Express used similar software and hardware to what roboticists are using now. It's translating motion into a digital 3D rendering of the character.
