Can Static Type Systems Really Prevent Bugs?

I had a past job where we were using coffee script on the front end. This was like more than a decade ago now. You didn't have all the tools that you had today as far as typed front end stuff. But I do remember very distinctly that we had one person on the team who had come in from a Haskell background. And he was just like really struggling with it. He's like, man, I feel like I'm not doing a good job at this. It definitely makes a difference if you have that mindset or not.
