I want to go back to this issue of projective identification because it's a central point that is in the book and it keeps coming up today. If an analyst does not take refuge in the convenience of considering her experience to be the result of projective Identification, then she has gained some purchase on her desire. The analytic process can proceed, therefore, relatively unburdened by the confusion of self and other.
