Jane austen died at the age of forty, before being recognized for her accomplishments. Her brother henry and sister cassandra pushed for her last two novels northanger abbey and persuasion to be published after her death. She had a following during her timesof writing but they were not as appreciated then as it is now. Pictures of her apparently were altered so that she would look like an unpeachable woman in the world. But we do know that she was actually a great individual who beat herself up over all these 'perfect' books.
