From the early 18 hundreds, the dutch colonial class began to resettle in batavia. They created and diverted canals and built residential quarters alongside them. But it quickly became clear that dutch town planning was not well suited to indanisia's tropical climate. So rather than being as an alede complex, the dowdon batavia was left out. A new town centre with more adequate intera structure was set up further to the south.
