Military doctors tried almost anything before sending soldiers home. They would try bleeding the soldiers, applying leeches and even threatening to burn them with hot irons. There's even rumors that some soldiers were buried alive. It goes without saying that nostalgia existed way before the word itself did. For instance, Homer's Odyssey is thought of by some as the nostalgia poem.
