The Rise and Fall of Tiberius
Tiberius gave Germanicus proconsular authority over the Eastern provinces. Tiberius appointed a close confident named Nius Calpurnius Piso to the governorship of Syria. The word on the street is that Piso was appointed specifically to stymie any initiatives embarked upon by Germanicus. At a maximum, Piso said to have engineered at Tiberius' order, the young heir apparent's death.
