In 2011, scientists from the University of Oxford published a paper titled Human Cortical Activity evoked by the Assignment of All Fenticity When Viewing Works of Art. They found that artwork that was assigned as a copy evoked a stronger response in a small region at the front of the brain called the Fronto Polar Cortex. So does it really matter if the piece of art is a forgery? And if so, why?
