For Democrats school choice was settled charter schools were the final compromise we wouldn't pursue vouchers as Republicans in the 1980s and a bit prior to that had been in favor of. Bill Clinton who worked with George H. W. Bush in 1989 brought governors together to create the outline for what became test based accountability. Meanwhile meanwhile Republicans have reverted back to this Reagan era vision of government dismantled bureaucracy, red tape cut down on spending. How does education even begin to reckon with something like this?
