The Politics of Incentives in the US

It's almost inevitable that this happens. Once this happens, policies become more or less populist or they are in the direct interest of stakeholders and regulators. There are many competent people on all levels of the hierarchies but the people that ultimately make the decisions are not incentivized to make the right ones. It doesn't seem like something that is political in the way that one administration goes and another one comes. The strange thing is that we were so critical by the way of Italy early on as a country handling COVID and then we learned nothing anyway. And yet they get to go back out and they're smart about it, it's crazy.
