What Is a Lost River?

London was not a place where there were any significant settlements before the romans. Many, many centuries londonwswas still a landscape flowing streams. As as the population of the city expanded, these streams at once life, life bringing ar, turned into open sewers. And it was only until the 18 sixties when the great engineer, joseph basiljet, planned this huge sewer system. He then culverted and then bricked over. A dozens and dozens of londons lost rivers. Nowadays, most of them still flow to some extent in victorian brickwork. But there are also plenty of rivers that were never bricks over, or which have now been released
