How to Defend the Bible

When we read some of the verses in the Bible, they sound so bizarre and strange. How do you get out of that mode to where you're not reading all these like memes and things that people said? I'm always thinking through how would I explain this to somebody else? And my Bible is filled with purple, because there's so many odd things. It forces me to stop when I read something and then say, what does this mean?"
