The History of Gades
After securing a lucrative metal trade route with Tartesos, Phoenicians began to push westward beyond the pillars of Hercules. Gades would soon become the main transport hub for Phoenician trade in the western Mediterranean. The wealth of Gades came mostly from the vast amounts of silver ore that could be shipped down the river. In essence, Gades acted as the focal point for Tyrion interests on Spain.
