The Guston's Confessions
The first line of any autobiography is going to be the most important. A scholar J.J. O. Donald says about this first line greater you Lord and exceedingly worthy of praise that in that one line is the entire confessions. The greatness of God is the subject matter of the confessions, not a Guston. That surprising ending where we actually turn to the words of scripture it's not so surprising after all because all along Augustine is trying to draw you to God by telling your own story.
