The approach has its origins in the age of catalog retailing called the RFM analysis. Our forefathers in direct marketing, they understood this cohort kind of thing very, very well. And so everyone else would kind of ignore those practices. But if you look underneath that layer behind the scenes, they were brilliant about doing this kind of stuff. Unfortunately, it was associated with a kind of less desirable marketing sector.
