Neither puton nor zalinski can be trusted on their own to basically make peace, because they want to push their vantage. The problem is that they're in an esclatory spiral where if weu know one or both of them miscalculate, we never get that deal. And i think the longer the war drags on, the harder it is to make a deal, not easier.
