Lincoln's Wage Labor Politics
Lincoln believed that a person should only encounter wage labor as as a brief ant to make the money necessary. The slave owner was no longer the ideal, but Wage labor was still an evil to be good avoided. Lincoln is trying to kind of re imagine the growing mass of wage laborers. Is none the less consistent with a free republic.
