Is It Easier to Get Good Prices on Renovations?

It's famously difficult to get good prices on renovations. You can work out something with a contractor, but it's not going to be as cheap to renovate yourself. It's vastly easier for you to sell the house with a minimal real estate commission then it is for you to renovate the house at a cheaper rate. But i don't think that saving on the real estate commission is usually going to allow you to do the full upgrades.
