The mid-1970s was an interesting period in the history of the Cold War. When I returned to the US and started teaching at Michigan State University, the Cold War was back in full tilt. Students like most other Americans absorbed a great deal of stereotypes and negative images that pervaded the mass media. The positive was that students were keen to learn something about enemy number one - the Soviet Union.
