Faust and the Dog

Faust says he feels two internal poles, two wills, pulling against each other within himself that are threatening to tear him apart. He just as much wants to ascend into the world beyond mankind as he longs to seek out new knowledges and experiences of the material world. So he longs for life, but he also longs for the source of all life. And so this is a blasphemous little section for fauste critique god's description of how the universe is fundamentally constituted. In doing so, faust reveals something to us by point of contrast.
