In Norse sources, there are two versions of the story. One exists in Flatyrbok, the other in Hemscringla. In both virgins, King Oliphur is entertained at a banquet by Othon in disguise who tells him stories of the pagan king Orgwalder who had worshipped a sacred cow. The King later realises that the hooded man was Othon and that he had left two sides of beef in the kitchen which had since been cooked with the rest of his food.
