The Supreme Court Judgment Limits the Number of OBCs to 50%

There was no established study on exactly what proportion of the population is OBC. So anecdotally you will hear that it is about 40%, 45%. It varies from state to state. But there was no scientific basis for saying this is the proportion unlike with SES and STs. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra have had historically more reservations than others.
