The QWERTY Keyboard Is Designed to Slow You Down
The QWERTY keyboard is designed to slow you down. It's a deliberately inefficient keyboard. In the early, early days of manual typewriters, if you had a keyboard with a rational layout, more efficient layout, you would type so fast that it would give a little option. But now for the last 30 years or so keyboards have become so ubiquitous that even though most people don't type well and haven't been trained how to type properly, they know the keyboard well enough that it's virtually impossible to unlearn it.
