When he was a college professor in Ithaca, New York, Rick Steves lived on the streets of Chicago. He stayed at an artist loft with painters and they're doing all the stuff; he crashed in their cows. After moving to Austin, Texas, steves worked as a bus boy for two years before starting his own band. "I worry that young people who don't expose themselves to random facets of life are just trying to destroy you until you're really vulnerable," says Steves.
