It feels almost like he's a throwback to another era where poets were taken seriously by philosophers and cultural critics and psychiatrists. It seems like today we've gotten into a mode where poetry is viewed as important for personal expression or for what it has to say about, you know, being alive and being part of different groups and categories. But the sort of the idea of a poet as needing to wrestle with politics and culture and big picture items and so on was hard to imagine that Ahana Arendt today would be turning to a poet to sort of exchange ideas.
