David Perry: Is there a way that you can make a judgment if some one tells you this is a memory? He says we and others have done experiments to induce certain kinds of false memories in the lab. There are areas of the brain involved in auditory processing that show more activity when you recognize tastes that really, you really did hear earlier,. versus sweet that you didn't hear at all. It's not yet ready for prime time in the courtroom, but it may be able to tell the difference between true and false memories under some lab conditions," he says.
