Early onset colon cancer is defined as a diagnosis that occurs at an age younger than 50. Most cancers diagnosed in people under the age of 50 tend to occur on the left side of the colon or in the rectum. We don't know right now why it is that left-sided cancers and rectal cancers are the majority of young onset colorectal cancer cases. The one factor that has been most looked at being obesity.
