Using Sensory Stimulus to Help a Child Get Over Screaming
Therapists often focus on what they see as challenging behaviors, he says. But it's often more frustrating for the child than working with them in a different area. Letting kids control stimulus can sometimes de-sensitize their reactions to things like sirens and loud noises. He also points out that nonverbal children may be suffering from painful medical problems such as acid reflux or tummy ache.
