Norman Lear and Ray Stark: The Two Biggest Producers in the Business
Bird heard about a play in New York and wanted to see it. He called the playwrights agent, Stan Cayman at William Morris in Beverly Hills. "I love this. I want to buy the movie rights," he said. The next day Bird got a phone call from his friend Ray Stark who offered him $1 million for co-producing an upcoming film with Robert Redford. It took more than a year before the film was made.
