The great artists find a way to have it both ways when they're in the studio not only are they creating performance but they are also exploring ideas as fully as if they were at rest. It seems like a lot of the most fascinating albums are groups who have found a way to get into that state together for a period of time. When I'm making my own music doesn't always feel like that it often feels pretty stressful and it does feel like it's just a performance that I need to execute. But writing for me seems to be one of the few ways that I may be catching that feeling and learning what it feels like firsthand for the first time.
