The fruits of monastic life also brought great riches to the church in the form of holy patriarchs, zealous bishops and unwavering priests. Although it was an institution removed from cities, it gave birth to figures that would shape all of Christian life in the world. So within several centuries, the monks that populated the deserts occupied the primary offices of the Episcopacy.
