What Do IRX3 and IrX5 Really Do?

IRX3 is a gene that's 600,000 nucleotides away from IRX5. And what's the effect of turning them off? That's exactly the next question. So we then ask, what does IRX3 and IRX5 do? The first thing we did was look across individuals for people who had higher expression of IRX3 or lower expression IRX3. We looked at the expression of all of the other genes in the genome. And we found that IRX3 & IRX5 were both correlated positively with lipid metabolism and negatively with mitochondrial biogenesis.
